Tramp metal detection complements magnetic separation by identifying metal remaining in the material stream before it reaches downstream equipment. In mining and quarrying applications, detectors are often installed after magnetic separators to detect contaminants that have passed through the separation stage.

AccuLearn learns your material's characteristics and adjusts sensitivity for the application. Product learning can take as little as 1 to 2 minutes. Detected contaminants can then be handled by the configured plant controls or separate reject equipment.

SurroundScan Defender III

The Defender III is designed for industrial processes where small metal contaminants can damage sensitive equipment or affect product purity. Typical applications include plastics and rubber extrusion. ADS specifies IP69K construction for demanding washdown environments, automatic adjustment for the product's conductive characteristics, and retention of data when power is interrupted. Each detector is sized to the application and required detection performance.

It shares the AccuLearn, Product Monitor and patented auto balance features of the Protector series.

Integration with your existing conveyor

A successful installation starts with the conveyor layout. Belt width, material burden depth, troughing angle, available clearance and detector position all need to be considered when sizing the system. Protector LP and HD models use removable end plates to simplify installation on existing conveyor frames. The HD Ultra has a removable upright for installation without belt removal, with custom mounting plate adapters available to suit existing frames.

Programmable contacts allow integration with plant PLCs and suitable reject equipment, including divert gates or belt ploughs. The response to a detection event should be configured for your process, whether that means stopping the conveyor or operating a separate reject device.
