The short answer

Yes, we service, calibrate and repair Siemens Milltronics belt weighers right across Australia, independently of the manufacturer. Do you service Siemens Milltronics belt scales?

Yes. We are an independent belt weigher service company, not Siemens and not a Siemens agent, and we work on Milltronics the same way as every major brand: the current BW500 generation, the BW100, the legacy MMI and MSI era integrators, and the weigh frames under all of them. We handle scheduled calibrations, breakdown callouts, mechanical repairs, load cell and speed sensor work, and commissioning of new or replacement scales.

To be clear on one thing: routine belt weigher calibration is practical maintenance work, not a trade certificate. We set the scale up correctly, prove it repeats, and record exactly what we found and what we left.

What Milltronics equipment do we see on Australian sites?

A wide spread of it, often on the one site. Milltronics has been installed here for a long time, so it is common to walk onto a plant and find a modern BW500 on one conveyor and a legacy MMI or MSI generation unit still weighing on another, decades after it went in. The Siemens weighing range on these sites also takes in SIWAREX weighing electronics. Mixed generations under one roof is normal, and we are set up for it: the same service technicians move between the old and the new without needing a different specialist for each.

The frames are just as varied: some original Milltronics weigh frames, others third party frames with a Milltronics integrator retrofitted on top. We service the frame as much as the electronics, because a scale is only as good as the mechanical assembly under it.

What is distinctive about servicing a BW500?

A BW500 behaves like any capable modern integrator, but a couple of things are worth knowing before a sensor swap or a fresh commission.

The main one is the speed input. Milltronics integrators expect a PNP (sourcing) speed sensor by default, in line with the European standard the line grew up on. Many of the American integrators most Australian techs learned on default to NPN (sinking) instead. So an existing or spare NPN proximity sensor can give no speed signal at all when it is moved onto a BW500, even though nothing is broken. Some models will also accept a NAMUR two wire sensor. We always check the sensor type against the input before starting, which saves an hour chasing a fault that is not there. The BW500 is also comfortable with high pulse frequencies and takes an HTL or TTL encoder on a dedicated input where higher speed accuracy is wanted, for example on a variable speed conveyor. For a standard belt weigher a simple proximity sensor is usually plenty.

Can you keep a legacy Milltronics unit running?

The honest position on the older MMI and MSI generation gear is that it is often worth keeping, and we keep plenty of it running. A well looked after unit will weigh accurately for years yet, and there is no reason to replace one that still holds its calibration, still talks to the plant, and still has spares behind it.

What ages is the hardware around the calculation: displays dim or fail, keypads wear, and spare boards get harder to find as a line matures. That is when a replacement conversation makes sense, not before: a dead display with no spare, a need for features the old unit never had such as network comms or data logging, or a site standardising on one integrator. Either way we lay out the options plainly and let you choose.

The single most useful thing we do for a legacy unit is keep a written record of its configuration. These older integrators can lose their settings if the memory backup fails and the site loses power, and a unit that has forgotten everything is a full recommission if nobody wrote the numbers down. Because we hold that record, a failed integrator is recoverable: we reload it rather than start over.

What does a Milltronics calibration look like?

At a reader level it follows the same logic as any belt weigher, and we confirm the setup against the physical installation rather than the stored values.

Zero (tare) is taken with the belt running empty at normal speed, averaged over whole belt revolutions so a lumpy belt averages out rather than being caught at one point. A clean, repeatable zero is the foundation of accuracy, and most drift traces back to something upsetting it: build-up on the frame, a binding idler, water in a junction box, or vibration.

Span teaches the scale what a known load weighs, either with calibrated test weights on the frame or, where a static weight cannot fairly stand in for normal running, a material comparison against a separately weighed load. Every value we touch goes down as found and as left.

What goes wrong on Milltronics scales?

A few come up again and again on Milltronics installations:

  • Speed sensor polarity mismatches. The PNP default is the one that catches people during sensor swaps and integrator replacements, as above.
  • Aged cabling. A load cell speaks in millivolts, so a corroded terminal or a chafed, rodent-chewed cable will shift the zero and make the reading wander.
  • Junction box moisture. Water ingress at a box is one of the most common causes of an unstable or drifting reading, and one of the easiest to miss.

Why use an independent for a mixed-brand site?

Few plants run a single make of weigher, and that is where an independent earns its keep.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work on the weigh frame as well as the BW500?

Yes. We service the complete scale: the weigh frame and carriage, the load cells, the speed sensor and the BW500, BW100 or legacy integrator, plus the wiring between them.

Can you still service an old MMI or MSI generation Milltronics unit?

Yes, and it is routine. We keep plenty of legacy Milltronics gear weighing well, and we hold a record of each unit’s configuration so a memory loss is recoverable.

My spare speed sensor gives no signal on a BW500. Why?

Most likely an NPN sensor on an input expecting PNP. Milltronics defaults to PNP, so the sensor and input must be matched. We check this before every calibration.

Is this a trade verification, or a maintenance calibration?

Almost every site wants the second: a routine maintenance calibration that keeps the scale honest for production and stock reconciliation, which is what this page describes.
